The Tomato 'Siam' is a compact, determinate cherry tomato plant, meaning it grows to a specific, manageable size and produces its fruit all at once, rather than continuously. It is a variety of Solanum lycopersicum, the common tomato.
'Siam' is a relatively fast-growing variety. It typically takes 70-84 days from transplant to maturity.
Like most tomato plants, 'Siam' produces small, "perfect" yellow flowers that are self-pollinating. This means they contain both male and female reproductive parts and can set fruit without the need for another plant or extensive manual pollination. This feature makes it particularly well-suited for indoor growing where natural pollinators may be absent.
The 'Siam' tomato is particularly special for its compact, determinate growth habit, making it an excellent choice for container gardening, small spaces, and especially indoor cultivation on windowsills or countertops.
-
'Siam' tomatoes require full sun, meaning at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. If growing indoors, place it on a sunny windowsill (ideally south-facing) or under grow lights to ensure adequate light for fruit production.
Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water freely in dry weather, focusing on watering the root zone (6-12 inches from the base of the plant) rather than the foliage to prevent disease. If growing indoors, ensure good drainage in the pot.
Plant in organic-rich, well-drained soil. A slightly acidic pH (between 6.2-6.8) is ideal for optimal nutrient uptake. When potting, use a good quality potting mix.
Ideal temperatures range from 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C).
